Our vision is cultivating a vibrant, supportive, inclusive, and coordinated sport community for every Yukoner

Who We Are

Sport Yukon is a non-governmental organization geared toward helping our members and the sport community succeed to their fullest potential.

Our membership is made up of Yukon Sport Governing Bodies, Sport and Recreation Organizations, and many other clubs, groups, and associations.

We are a hub for Yukon sport organizations and the voice for sport in the territory

 

That is our mission. To that end, we work to elevate sport by facilitating education and partnerships for our members, as well as providing advocacy, promotion, development of sport tourism, events, and access to administrative and financial resources.

 

 

Organizational Milestones

1970s

Sport Yukon is created to organize Team Yukon for the first Arctic Winter Games in Yellowknife, NT. Art Webster was the director.

1972

Sport Yukon assists Whitehorse in hosting its first Arctic Winter Games.

1977

Sport Yukon launches the first Major Awards.

1980

The Yukon Sports Hall of Fame inducts its first five honourees: Father Jean-Marie Mauchet, Bert Boyd, Art Fry, Bill Brewster, and Raymond Richard (Cal) Miller.

1980s

Sport Governing Bodies begin forming.

1986

Sport Yukon Chefs Team Yukon at the Whitehorse Arctic Winter Games. They were the first Games attended by the Russian contingent.

1991

Sport Yukon moves into their brand new building at 4061 4th Avenue in Whitehorse. Funding becomes stable from here forward.

Our Present and Future

Sport Yukon has evolved greatly since its inauguration in the 1970s and it's growing ever since.

Whether its information on programs and funding, to expertise in sport tourism and event bidding, to a proven channel of communication and advocacy with government, Sport Yukon is at the centre of it.

GOAL Athletes On How The Program Has Helped

The Air North GOAL (Giving Our Athletes a Lift) Program provides travel certificates to athletes who are members of the Sport Yukon member organization. Each travel certificate entitles the athlete to one flight segment for the purpose of participating in a recognized sporting event outside of the…
